Before the game Charlie V tried to get in the way of Russell Westbrook and Cameron Payne’s pregame dance routine. This is something both KD and Westbrook were asked about after the game. Take a listen.

Reporter : What they were doing before the game, it looked like they interrupted your pregame dance or whatever you guys were doing…

리포터 : 제가 보기에는 그들(빌라누에바, 앤더슨)이 러슬 선수의 프리게임 댄스를 방해했던것 같은데

KD : Nothing. They didn’t do nothing.

듀란트 : 아무것도 아닙니다. 그들은 아무것도 안했습니다.(큰 의미가 없다는 뜻)

Reporter : Do you think they tried to send a message to you?

리포터 : 그들이 당신에게 어떠한 메세지를 전달(도발) 하려는 듯 보였나요?

KD : Nah- That’s just..fake (shit)

듀란트 : 아니요. 그건 그냥 뻘짓거리에요.

RW : Yeah- it’s fake (shit)

웨스트브룩 : 그래요. 헛짓거리죠.

KD : That ain’t no basketball game man.

듀란트 : 농구경기에 아무 상관없는 짓이죠.

RW : Those guys are who don’t play…they gotta do something.

웨스트브룩 : 경기에 뛰지 못하는 선수들이라 뭐라도 해야했나봅니다.

KD : Nah- That’s nothing.

듀란트 : 아무일도 아닙니다. 의미 없어요.

My reaction is that…it was anything but fake. It was extremely real on the part of Charlie V who became the Mavs’ unsung MVP last night without playing one second in the basketball game, aided by Justin Anderson who did play a few minutes in the basketball game and played at a high and angry level like the rest of Mavericks team.

내 생각에 그건 ‘헛 짓’이 아니였어. 경기에 단 일 초도 뛰지 않고도 그 경기의 숨겨진  MVP인 빌라누에바와 몇분 뛰지는 못했지만 높은 열정으로 경기에 임한 앤더슨이 다른 모든 메버릭스 동료선수들에게 불타올라서 경기에 임할 수 있게한 아주 ‘잘한 짓’이지!

Beaten up, injured, and hopeless that it appeared most of the game but played with chips on shoulders because of the blatant disrespect shown them mostly by RW. If Russ and Cameron Payne, their rookie point guard backing up Russ…(I don’t know) if they had a choreographed sequence to start games, but this one went on and on and on and on with Russ sort of asking Cam to mirror his every moves. He kept going on and on (saying) let’s do this move! Let’s do this and you mirror me, mirror me, mirror me. And it came across as blatant disrespect in a Game Two, over a team that you’ve beaten by 38 just the other day as you well know in Game One. It came across as if they were dancing on the grave of the beat-up Dallas before the Game Two even started, as if they were almost celebrating a sweep.

경기내내 다치고 망가져서 절망적인 모습의 메브릭스였지만, 대부분 웨스트브룩으로 부터 보여진 무례함을 갚아줘야 한다는 강박을 갖고 경기에 임했지. 웨스트브룩과 루키 포인트가드 페인은 항상 게임 전에 미리 짜온 안무로 프리게임 루틴을 하는지는 모르겠지만, 어제는 한도 끝도 없이 계속 되더라고. 웨스트브룩이 페인에게 ‘내 안무에 맞춰서 따라와’ ‘이것도 해보고, 저것도 해보고’ 하면서 계속 프레게임 춤을 이어나가는것 같더라고. 그게 내가 봤을 때, 당장 저번 게임 1에서 38점으로 이긴 달라스를 앞에두고 이번 라운드 시리즈 스윕이라도 한마냥 춤을 추면서 축제를 벌이는 것 같더라. 아직 게임 2 시작도 안했는데.

I know this. I wouldn’t have loved it. And I appreciate that Charlie V and Justin Anderson got up in their faces. They didn’t want to fight with them, but just sort of got in their way Russ pushed both of them-that’s his prerogative, but it made Dallas to play angry the whole night. And it made, in fourth quarter, the guards to play angry. Devin Harris made five loose ball rebound in the fourth quarter. Raymond Felton had four rebounds in the fourth quarter and Dallas outrebounded by far the best rebounding team in basketball in the fourth quarter 14 to 13. You know what that’s all about. That’s about disrespected desire, that’s about just wanting the basketball and winning the game ultimately worse than the home team did. And it all started with that. I think it sent shock waves down the Dallas bench. They didn’t like it. I don’t think Mark Cuban liked it. I think they were talking about it. And it fueled and propelled a team that had no business competing last night. Not only they competed, they won or stole the basketball game and it started just before tipoff with this sequence.

적어도 나라면 아주 불쾌했을거야. 그래서 나는 빌라누에바과 앤더슨이 걔내들 프리게임 루틴에 맞선 걸 아주 좋게 봤어. 싸우려는 것은 아니였고 그냥 그 루틴을 방해하려고 끼어들더라고. 웨스트브룩이 두명 모두를 밀어냈었는데, 물론 그건 웨스트브룩에게 그럴 권리가 있지, 그게 달라스 팀 전체를 고무시키는 일이 되버렸어. 4쿼터에는 달라스 가드들이 불타오르는 결과를 내었지. 데빈 해리스는 5개의 루즈볼 리바운드를 따냈고, 팰튼은 4개의 리바운드를 잡아냈어. 그리고 결과적으로 4쿼터에 NBA리그 전체에서 가장 뛰어난 리바운드 팀을 상대로 14개 대 13개로 더 많은 리바운드를 따내었지. 이게 뭔지 알아? 이건 당한 수모에 대한 앙갚음이고, 공에 대한 집착, 홈팀보다 강한 승리에 대한 열망이야. 그리고 이 모든 것은 이 일로 시작된거지. 이 일이 결국에는 달라스 팀 전체에 강한 파장을 일으켰다고 생각해. 당연히 (웨스트브룩과 페인의 프리게임루틴)이 싫었겠지. 마크 큐반도 달가워하지 않았을거야. 아마도 이것에 대해서 이야기 했었겠지. 매브스는 이번 경기를 경쟁력있는 경기를 만든 것 뿐아니라, 그 경기를 승리. 혹은 뺐어 오는데 성공했고, 그 모든 것의 시발점은 경기전 이 해프닝이라는 거지.

Well, first of all, Dallas deserves a lot of credit just like I said. No doubt about that. And I’m going to give Justin Anderson and Charlie V credit because when Russ shoved both of them one after the other none of them retaliated because that easily could have been an excuse….You know think about it. What if Charlie V or Anderson, once RW shoved them, cold-cock RW? Then RW obviously would have retaliated because he’s no punk. He definitely would have gone back at them. Then guys that are averaging 10 min or less a game would have gotten ejected but so would have RW who’s one of the stars in OKC. So applaud them for not trying to engage in any fistcuffs or anything like that even RW shoved them. Even though they had no business getting in the middle of RW and Cameron Payne doing what they did.

일단 달라스가 인정 받아야 할것은 인전 받아야해. 아주 당연한거지. 그리고 빌라누에바와 앤더슨도 인정해줘야 하는것은 이거야. 생각해봐. 만약에 벨라누에바나 앤더슨이 웨스트브룩이 밀쳤을 때 주먹이라도 날렸어봐. 어땟을까? 웨스트브룩이 가만히 맞고만 있었겠어? 웨스트브룩은 찐따가 아니야. 아마도 몇 배로 되값아 주려했겠지. 그럼 시즌 내내 한 경기 10분 미만 출장하고 있는 선수들(빌라누에바/앤더슨)은 퇴장을 당했을 것이고, 썬더의 슈퍼스타인 웨스트브룩도 함께 퇴장을 당했겠지. 웨스트브룩이 밀쳤지만 싸움판을 벌이지 않았던 두 선수에게 난 박수를 쳐주고 싶어. 물론 굳이 거기에 낄자리는 아니었다고 생각하지만.

I am not going to sit up here and condone it. It does come across as a bit excessive and dare I say childish and classless to some degree towards the competition. But I would also like to add this. Let’s not be hypocrites here. I was in Houston on an eve of the National Championship game between Villanova and UNC. Houston was playing OKC on that Sunday. RW and Cameron Payne were dancing before the game. Do you know they were plastered all over the place? Sport Center. So guess what? You saw RW doing THIS doing some dance or whatever the case may be, and it was all over Sport Center all that Sunday night and all day on that Monday. Okay? So evidently some folks are liking it.

내가 웨스트브룩과 페인이 한 일을 관용하자는 말이 아니야. 내가 봐도 그 프리게임루틴은 상대팀이 보기에 어느정도 과도한 면도 있었고, 감히 말하 건데 유치하기도 했어. 하지만 위선자가 되지는 말자 이거지. 내가 저번 빌라노바 대 노스 캐롤라이나 대학농구 결승전 하루 전날에 휴스턴에 있었는데. 휴스턴과 오클라호마의 경기가 일요일에 있었어. 그날에도 웨스트브룩과 페인이 비슷한 프리게임루틴을 했는데 그게 어디에 다 도배가 되었는지 알아? 스포츠 센터(ESPN 쇼)! 그러니까 내말은 웨스트브룩과 페인이 하는 댄스 프리게임루틴이 일요일 당일 그리고 다음날 월요일까지 스포츠센터에 도배가 되어있었는데, 그건 ESPN도 좋아했다는 말 아니야? (그럼 이제와서 욕하면 안된다는 의견)

Would I do it? No. Do I think it should be done? No. But at the same time RW and Cameron Payne could make the argument that it is just what they do before the game to get them going, enthused about playing the game because it is their own little thing and it’s not disrespectful toward the competition. Now we can believe that or not believe that. And again, I don’t approve of it. I don’t like it. But it’s none of my business at the end of the day. It’s something that they do. They didn’t reserve it for the Dallas Mavericks. Now if it’s something that you never do but then all of a sudden you blow Dallas out by 38 pts and then you come out the next game thinking that it’s a foregone conclusion what you’re going to do them again and you do this, that’s an entirely different issue than if you do it all the time and nobody ever said anything but all of a sudden Charlie and CJ Anderson said ‘I’m going to step up and take offence to it. That’s all I’m saying here. Nobody’s condoning that stuff because again it’s excessive you know. And it doesn’t need to be that way. But the flip side is, coming to the defense, is that if it is something that they always do and it’s just their own little thing and it has nothing to do with the competition then there’s no reason to interfere with that especially when you ride in the bench which Charlie V does.

나라면 하겠냐고? 아니 절대로. 댄스루틴이 타당한 일이냐? 내 생각에도 아니야. 하지만 웨스트브룩과 페인이 이렇게 반론 할 수는 있다고 봐. 그건 그냥 경기 전에 사기를 복돋우고 흥분시키기 위한 자신들 만의 의식일 뿐 상대편을 무시하는 의도는 전혀 없다고 말이야. 그걸 믿고 안 믿고는 듣는 사람 자유고, 사실 나도 그런거 싫어, 보기 않좋아. 하지만 (위의 주장이 사실이라면) 그걸로 우리가 왈가왈부 할 일이 아니라는거지. 그냥 자신들만의 것이잖아. 달라스 메버릭스를 위해 따로 준비해 둔것도 아니고. 그래. 그러니까 내말은 이게 항상 해오던 것이고 그동안 아무도 뭐라고 하지 않았었는데 갑자기 빌라누에바와 앤더슨이 공격적으로 받아들이는 것이랑 그걸 네가 절대 하던게 아닌데 달라스를 38점으로 박살낸 다음 경기에 나와서 이미 보나마다 뻔한 결과라고 생각하면서 갑자기 그런일을 벌인다면 그건 완전히 다른 이야기라는 거야. 누가 무엇을 관용하고 아니고의 차원이 아니고 내말은… 그 루틴은 좀 지나친면이 있고, 그걸 꼭 그렇게 해야만 하는 것도 아니지만, 반대 입장에서 변호하자면 그 루틴이 항상 해오던 것이고 상대편과 아무 상관도 없는 것이라면 빌라누에바와 앤더슨이 굳이 나와서 방해했어야 했냐는 거지. 더군다나 벤치나 달구고 있는 선수들이.

I get you. I still think it was- to use your word, excessive. I get it that they do it every game, but this one seemed it went a little extended on and on, as Russ continued to sort of go spontaneous with it. But here’s my point. I liked what Charlie V did. I liked the way Justin Anderson joined him to protest without provoking. As you said it didn’t get to fistcuffs, but they did it the right way.  They just walked into the middle of it. They just sort of disrupted it without pushing and shoving. They got pushed but they didn’t push back. I appreciated that and I do think that set the tone for Dallas in the game.

무슨 말인지 알아. 하지만 역시 내 말대로 지나친 면이 있어. 매 경기에서 해오던 루틴이라는 것도 알겠는데, 하지만 이번것은 좀 너무 오래 끌었지 않았나 싶어. 왜냐면 웨스트브룩이 (미리 짜온것이 아니라) 즉흥적으로 안무를 계속 만들어내서 더 길게 끌고 가려는게 보였거든. 결국에 내가 하고 싶은 말은 이거야. 나는 빌라누에바와 앤더슨이 싸움을 부추기지 않고 대항했다는 면이 아주 마음에 들어. 네 말대로 주먹질이 오가지는 않고, 정당하게 맞섰지. 그 루틴 사이에 밀치고 달려들어서 방해한게 아니라 스리슬적 끼어든거 말이야. 나중에 웨스트브룩이 미쳤을 때도 대응하지 않았어. 난 그게 아주 마음에 들어. 그리고 이건 결과적으로 달라스가 경기에 임하는 태도를 바꿔주었지.

Well, listen. If you’re going to get heated and it’s going to make you perform all the better (why not?) because guess what we thought we were going to see annihilation based on the injuries that Dallas had but they showed up. Whatever has fired them worked for the view in public because we got to see a great game last night. We know we saw KD look human. We saw RW get humble because they lost. We saw Dallas Mavs remind everybody that this is going to be a series. They were not going to just lay down and get steamrolled over. So we can appreciate that in this to our benefit.

맞아. 봐바. 네가 경기에 임하는데에 불타오르게 하고 경기력을 끌어올리는데에 도움이 되다면 그게 무엇이 되었든 안 할 이유가 뭐야. 생각해봐. 우리는 달라스가 오클라호마에게 아주 처참하게 박살이 나겠구나 생각했는데 당당히 맞서 싸웠어. 뭐가 달라스를 불타오르게 했든 좋은 경기를 보게된 우리 대중들에게는 잘된 일이었지. 듀란트의 사람다운 모습을 봤지. 팀이 패배하는 바람에 웨스트브룩이 겸손해졌어. 달라스가 이 라운드를 쉽게 내주지 않을 거라는 사실을 우리 모두에게 상기시켰지. 그들은 그냥 다 내려 놓고 드러누워서 어서 밟고 지나가십쇼 하지 않을 거라는 걸 보여줬어. 그렇기 때문에 우리에게는 결과적으로 아주 좋은 일이야.

But all I want to say is that while I don’t agree with them doing it or anything like that, let’s make sure that we draw a clear distinction between them doing something to snub their nose at the competition and doing something that they just normally do. If they normally do this before all the games then there’s nothing for anybody to say and that’s all I’m trying to point out.

하지만 내가 하고 싶은 말은 이거야. 내가 그들이 하는 댄스 루틴을 지지하지는 않지만, 그들의 루틴이 상대를 기만하고자 하는 것인지 아니면 그들만의 매번 해오던 의식인지 정확한 구분을 해야한다고 생각해. 만약에 매 경기 전에 해오던 의식이라면 누가 뭐라 할 이유가 없다고 생각해. 그게 다야.

생각보다 이일이 커져버린 느낌이 있지만 시리즈가 재밌어지는 여러가지 이유중 하나가 되었네요. 빌라누에바가 또 반격하고 했던데 재밌습니다. 말 잘하더라구요.
