I have just called President Obama to congratulate him on his victory. His supporters and his campaign also deserve congratulations. I wish all of them well, but particularly the president, the first lady and their daughters. This is a time of great challenges for America, and I pray that the president will be successful in guiding our nation.

선거유세 당시 매케인의 참모들은 오바마가 교류하던 인사들의 급진적이고 반체제적인 성향과 베일에 쌓인 오바마의 청년시절에 대한 의혹과 비판 전략을 제시했으나 매케인은 그러한 비판적 발언이 혹시라도 인종주의적인 것으로 낙인찍힐까봐 극도로 조심했고 제대로 공격적인 선거운동을 펼치지도 못했습니다.
My friends, we have come to the end of a long journey. The American people have spoken, and they have spoken clearly. A little while ago, I had the honor of calling Sen. Barack Obama — to congratulate him on being elected the next president of the country that we both love.
In a contest as long and difficult as this campaign has been, his success alone commands my respect for his ability and perseverance. But that he managed to do so by inspiring the hopes of so many millions of Americans, who had once wrongly believed that they had little at stake or little influence in the election of an American president, is something I deeply admire and commend him for achieving.

대선을 국가의 화합을 위해 이용하는 것 같은 느낌이 들 정도로 훌륭한 품격을 보여주는 것 같습니다. (링크 감사합니다) 우리나라도 나아질 것으로 믿습니다만, 대선도 얼마남지 않은 상태에서 '역시나 레임덕 시기에 맞춰 온갖 게이트가 터지는' 우리나라 작금의 현실에 비춰볼때 정말 부럽네요.

우리나라도 패자가 승자를 존중하는 정치문화가 정착되었으면 좋겠습니다 허나 아직 갈 길이 멀어 보이는군요  미국의 이번 대통령선거는 지금까지의 미국 대통령선거와는 느낌이 많이 다르네요 과거 대통령선거보다 지저분하게 느껴집니다 재밌게 잘 봤습니다

I wish you great happiness here. I never felt the loneliness some presidents have described.
There will be very tough times, made even more difficult by criticism you may not think is fair. I'm not a very good one to give advice; but just don't let the critics discourage you or push you off course.
You will be our president when you read this note. I wish you well. I wish your family well.
